A very lazy nothing day in El Cuco El Salvador.

Today I was woken by nuts falling from the tree over my room and landing on the tin roof. I am sure there is someone up there that is determined that I will not get a chance to sleep in. I forgot to fill my water bottle last night so had to do the unthinkable and leave my room before coffee to get it filled. Its a long time since I’ve had to do that.

Tap water here is drinkable for locals but not recommended for us whimps. All places so far have provided filtered drinking water so it hasn’t been a problem. The water is ok for brushing teeth etc.

Coffee done, puzzles and lessons completed I joined the others down at the beach. This place is huge and is so well set up. There is a turtle colony here but sounds like we wont see any although there are a lot of eggs waiting to hatch.

My Spanish has degenerated to single word sentences which I am sad about. Everyone on the tour speaks English with a few fluent Spanish speakers and the rest of us know words here and there. Many employees at the places we go can speak English so I don’t really get the chance to practice but I thought that would be the case before I came. I see another South American volunteering stint coming along. That gives me the chance to practice more.

The debate of the day for me was get in the sea before or after my massage. Most people will know I’m not a water person so I don’t care if I get wet or not. But it is so idyllic here I feel I should at least make an effort. Maybe. After the massage.

And the massage was divine. In a tiny room with just a bed and a stool with a masseuse with a beautiful smile. For the first time I experienced the vibrating roller and it rippled over my skin feeling amazing. Now I don’t want to wash the oil off.

Goodness it’s tough having to make decisions when you are relaxing.

There are a couple of Pelicans here. They have been rescued from somewhere and can’t fly but just hang out watching, waiting for food and flapping their wings. Poor guys. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1FenvUVkY8C2X3HZ8XZ3RrMdGJAFvEh_g

There are also a heap of turtle nests where eggs are buried under the sand. What a shame we missed the little guys.

After my massage I did very little. A bit of a nap, some blog stuff, an occasional beer or a coke then we all got together for our briefing and dinner. This time the best choice in a while, a fish ceviche. Delightfully refreshing and super tasty.

Time for bed. We have a 3:45am start tomorrow and are crossing out of El Salvador into and then out of Honduras and in to Nicaragua where we expect it to take a while.
